Show Me!/StoryJumper

Hello parents,
Some of you have received an email showing you what your child has learned. They love to record themselves! My goal is to have all students recorded soon. I will then showcase some of them at the bottom of this blog. Just hit play. Also, your child has started and may have finished their story using StoryJumper. Unfortunately, the option to send it via email doesn't come up. I am trying to figure this out. They can still access it from home and show you from home.

Enjoy!

Multiplication

It's time for multiplication facts! Please time your child for 1 minute practicing the facts through 12. We will begin 1 minute quizzes real soon. We will start with the 2's, 5's, 10's, 11's, and 9's. Then we will go back in order ending with the 12's. Your child will keep track of what fact he/she is on. Quizzes that are not passed will be sent home Tuesday and Thursday. Quizzes that are passed will be kept in a folder. We will quiz every Tuesday and Thursday until the end of the year.

Thank you for your support!

Work/Homework

I have let all my students know that they are able to come to my room in the morning @7:30 if they need to finish an assignment that is on their clipboard or if they forget to do their homework. The Heroes program will offer assistance with homework from 7:30-8:00. Some students have already taken advantage of this offer to get help with homework and to finish work in my room. All your child has to do is come and see me! I am here every morning from 7:30-8:00. See you in the morning...

Well it looks like the 2 most chosen answers were a and c. The answer was c.26
The rule was +4. You needed to extend the table: 18+4=22 for Saturday. The question asks for Sunday not Saturday. You have to extend the table again! 22+4=26 for Sunday.

Answer:
C. 36 and 9

Almost time to get back to work!

Hello awesome 3rd graders!
Hope you are enjoying your spring break. I know that I am! I'm sure you've noticed that I have made some changes to my blog. I will be adding more TAKS problems. I've also just added some vocabulary flash cards. They are kinda big so I had to place them at the bottom. Scroll all the way down and check them out. Choose scatter and you can play a quick and easy game.

I've also added the 4's and the 6's multiplication cards. Note: the 6's only go up to 6x10. Practice them first and then choose scatter and see if you can make them disappear in under 1 minute!

Inherited Traits

Hope you all are having fun discovering where your inherited traits come from! Posters are due this Wednesday. You will get a ticket if you turn in your posters before Wednesday!

Inherited traits come from blood relatives such as parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, etc. For example, my daughter Bella has dimples. When she was born we were trying to figure out where she gets those dimples. Neither my husband nor myself have dimples. Not even our parents! We finally remembered that my mother's brother has dimples. They both inherited this trait from Grandpa Munoz. Bella has inherited a trait from her great-grandfather!

I can't wait to see your posters!

Symmetry&Geometric Patterns

Students had a great time practicing symmetry with geoboards online. They also practiced repeating and additive patterns. National Library of Virtual Manipulatives is an awesome website. It's exactly as the title says: Manipulatives online! Ask your child to show you symmetry, additive, and repeating patterns. Click on Math Manipulatives! located on the left under the math link list.

Saying goodbye to a wonderful lady...

Many of you all have already heard of the passing of Ms. Cordo. I will greatly miss her sense of humor. I will miss our morning chats as I would cut through the 5th grade rooms. She has taught me to enjoy life. One day at a time...

Math Strategies

Here are some math strategies that we follow in the classroom.

1. Read the problem.
2. Circle important numbers.
3. Underline keywords. Every word is not a keyword!
4. Reread your question.
5. Take out any trash.
6. Check for reasonableness. Does my answer make sense?

Take a look at our new class pet...

Thanks to Mrs. Boehme for giving us a tadpole. We are looking forward to observing the life cycle of a frog! I will keep you posted. Students, please vote now for a name!

It's nice to get back to work! I'm excited about getting the second half of the school year started. The time will fly by...We will be benchmarking in a couple of weeks. Parents, please check the calendar. Before we know it, TAKS will be here. Some parents have asked for extra practice in math and reading. I have added the T.E.A. link where you can find study guides for both math and reading. I know our students will do their very best job!

We also have many fun lessons coming up and lots of technology to use! We will be investigating the solar system and students will use Glogster. We also have AverPens to use along with our lessons. I will be posting pics soon.

I'd like to remind you about supplies! Please send students with the necessary supplies. Many students need pencils, glue, scissors, and crayons.
